Before you begin
Correct installation is essential to the operation, weather performance and appearance of an aluminium window. Check the product, opening and installation requirements before removing existing frames or beginning work.
Survey the opening carefully
Measure at several points and check the opening for level, plumb and squareness. Aluminium frames should not be forced tightly against masonry.
Allow an appropriate installation gap
Provide sufficient perimeter clearance so the frame can be positioned, packed and sealed correctly without distortion.
Pack before fixing
Use suitable packers at fixing points and beneath load-bearing areas. Keep the frame square and prevent movement as fixings are tightened.
Use appropriate fixings
Fixing type and spacing depend on the substrate, frame and opening. Avoid over-tightening, which can distort aluminium profiles.
Check drainage and orientation
Before glazing, confirm the frame is correctly orientated and that designed drainage paths remain clear.
Glaze and toe-and-heel where required
Doors and opening sashes may require correct glazing packer placement to maintain alignment and smooth operation.
Insulate and seal
Complete perimeter insulation and weather sealing with compatible products appropriate to the installation and substrate.
